Breaking Barriers: Women Leading the Future of AI
The Gender Gap in Tech: Why It Matters
Despite rapid advancements in AI, women remain significantly underrepresented, holding just 22% of global AI positions (WEF 2023). This imbalance leads to biased algorithms and missed innovation opportunities. At Sri Harshini, we're addressing this through targeted scholarships, women-led research projects, and partnerships with organizations like Women in AI. Our curriculum specifically includes ethics modules to ensure responsible, inclusive AI development.
Student Spotlight: Our AI Innovators
Third-year CSE-AI student Priya K. exemplifies our hands-on approach, having developed a sign-language translation glove using TensorFlow and Arduino. Her project, mentored by Dr. Sharma from our AI Research Center, recently won the National Youth Innovation Award. "The college's High-Performance Computing Lab gave me the tools to train my models effectively," Priya shares, now interning at a leading assistive tech startup.
Industry Partnerships Bridging the Divide
Our MoU with TechGiant Inc. brings their AI specialists to campus monthly for "Code Clinics," where students get feedback on projects. Last semester, 15 students secured internships through these sessions. The partnership also funds an annual "Women in AI" hackathon with ₹5 lakhs in prizes, judged by female CTOs from top firms.
Resources to Start Your AI Journey
Begin with our curated "AI Starter Kit": Free access to Coursera's Deep Learning Specialization, weekly Kaggle practice sessions with faculty, and 24/7 access to our GPU lab. The college library also maintains a dedicated section with 50+ titles on machine learning fundamentals and feminist AI ethics. Alumni mentor Ms. Rao (Data Scientist, Amazon) hosts monthly Q&A sessions exclusively for first-years.

April 14, 2025As a prospective student, this blog solidified my decision to join Sri Harshini! The focus on women-led projects (like the sign-language glove) and green engineering aligns perfectly with my goals. Could you share more about how first-year students can get involved in research initiatives? The mentorship opportunities mentioned here seem transformative for building confidence in STEM fields.

April 13, 2025Class of '20 here! Reading about the latest solar projects and placement records fills me with pride. Our batch witnessed the early stages of these initiatives – it's incredible to see them flourishing. To current students: Make the most of those industry clinics and hackathons; those experiences helped me land my role at Cisco. Faculty, keep these inspiring updates coming!
